GIG REVIEWS
MARKET TAVERN, AUGUST 26TH, 2005
- “First up we had local melodic hardcore upstarts RAM-MAN who kick off
with “Fight” and tear the room up with a guitar driven hook filled set of
future classics. Ram-Man give us power chords and chorus’s that bring to
mind early Pennywise or even TSOL. The band tell me they’re very
influenced by US Hardcore and it shows - but with added Brummie guts and a
bass sound so dirty it would give Lemmy an erection! The front man of this
young band is already commanding the stage and engaging the audience with
an assured confidence that should see Ram -Man headlining shows for years
to come, I really hope they can keep the torch burning for the Brum punk
scene…… With the upsurge in new bands like the Nihilists, Dive, Radiation
Angel, Capones, False Idol and Ram-Man who are all playing the Brum Punx
picnic first weekend of September - it looks like the old guard had better
pull their fingers out - get real or if not fuck off - cos the fact is the
Birmingham and Midland punk scene is strong and thriving - why pay more
when you can grow your own!!!!” –

– “Last up were Birmingham band RAM-MAN who’s incredible “you can’t fool
me “ ep blew me away on hearing it. RAM-MAN hit the stage with a lot to
live up to after the proceeding 7 bands had ripped things up. Minus a
second guitarist not that anyone noticed they immediately stormed into
their set of melodic hardcore punk that is reminiscent of early Pennywise
at times. On bass is the current Contempt drummer who drove the whole show
with a none stop aggressive rumble more than matched by the rest of the
band who despite the incredibly heat in the room managed to bounce through
the whole set. The band have a set full of angry political songs then
completely threw everyone with a cover of “I’m just a girl” by No Doubt,
vocalist Andy is way too flat chested to be a girl but whatever rocks your
boat lads. Some of the younger kids had left by the end of the show
replaced by a few older punks who were pleasantly surprised to find angry
young punks blasting out new tunes to new punk rockers - RAM-MAN are part
of an angry ground swell of punk bands that have nothing in common with
the pop punk crap on MTV. Stand track of the set was “Fuck Society” which
rocked the whole room and is on the excellent “You can’t fool me” cd.....”

– “This was the first time seeing Ram-Man tonight, a 5 piece from the
Wolverhampton/Birmingham area. I liked this band's set very much, and they
reminded me a lot of bands such as Pennywise and Bad religion but a lot
more politically focused. Great vocalist and i liked the raw - hardcore
sound which reminded me also of Contempt. Highlight of the set was
vocalist Andy attempting to cover 'Im just a Girl' by No Doubt.

– “I thought that was the last band then Ram-Man appear. Reggish Bad
Religion type of a band, they get the kidz skanking, not a bad band to end
the night. I go home feeling great some fresh new punk bands that are
gonna go far, so when they play, go and see them they are your future
!!!!!!” -

- "Super fast, high energy, adrenaline pumping punk rock for your skate
board gang and dive bar brawl. And if your not into that kind of stuff,
just good freakin in your face rock. The band does not waste anytime with
crazy artsy riffs or anything, they get straight to pumping your ears full
of heavy noise. A catchy melody, with a catchy chord progression......
These guys will totally rock the piss out of you and you will love them
for it. A+ for thrashability factor". Captains -

- "Wow, if its energy you want, and you need some music that can instantly
release any pent-up anger, frustration or rage, then you have found the
track that will continuously satisfy! No complex, drawn-out meandering
here, just 100% absolute, solid punk rock. Long enough, to grab you by the
balls (and squeeze unquestionably hard!), but short enough, to warrant
another listen, again & again! Right from word go, thumpin bass pushes
through the speakers, into your psyche, followed by wave after wave of
guitars, drums and vocals. The song does exactly what the makers hope,
beautifully summarising the phrase 'SHORT SHARP SHOCK! Fuckin Class!!". -

FUCK
SOCIETY EP
- ''5 track self produced and recorded e.p. from this Birmingham based
band. The band formed in 2001 and were originally a catchy tuned punk band
but have since evolved into a more hardcore sounding band. As far as self
recorded material goes the lads have done a good job on their 8-track
here. The songs are fast and well played with some good lyrics. Well worth

CAN'T FOOL ME EP
''4
track self produced/recorded c.d. from this hardcore band from Birmingham.
So far since forming in August 2001 the band have released 3 DIY c.d.’s.
The band play fast, heavy hardcore with the subject matter on this c.d.
ranging from animal abuse to lies about war. Considering this was recorded
on an 8-track the band have got a pretty decent recording, I have heard
proper studio albums that sound a lot worse than this” - 4 out of 5'' -
